Orthodontic Care for Adults
There are more adults getting orthodontic treatment today than ever before according to the American Association of Orthodontists, with more than 1.1 million adults getting braces every year, an increase of 58% in just the last 20 years. And with good reason: orthodontic treatment not only improves your appearance but it improves your health as well.
Having crooked teeth can often lead to a bad bite which means that your teeth and jaw do not fit properly together. This can cause teeth to wear unevenly, can cause them to crack and can lead to more complicated and expensive dental work. In addition, it is significantly more difficult to brush and floss properly with crooked teeth, which very often leads to tooth decay and gum disease. So not only does a straighter smile simply look better, it is also better for you because it improves the functionality of your teeth and jaw and your oral hygiene resulting in a healthy smile for the rest of your life.
So, it is never too late to get your teeth straightened as long as your teeth and gums are healthy and Dr. Fink has treated patients that range in age from 5 – 84 years old.
We know that your time is valuable and we will make every effort to minimize your treatment time and your number of office visits. In fact, as a practicing St. Louis orthodontist that also participates in clinical orthodontic research, Dr. Fink has developed unique time saving techniques that can reduce treatment time of a typical 24 month case to 12 months or less in many situations.
Similarly, Dr. Fink is offering a new orthodontic product, called AcceleDent, that uses SoftPulse Technology to cut Invisalign treatment time in half by allowing a patient to change his/her aligners every week instead of two. AcceleDent is an FDA approved bone stimulator for the mouth that requires the patient to bite on a simple-to-use, hands-free mouthguard for 20 minutes a day while it is attached to a handsize device that emits tiny vibrations, or micropulses, that speed up bone regeneration.
We also want your orthodontic treatment to avoid interfering with your life as much as possible. So, Dr. Fink's office offers a variety of hidden treatment methods that are particularly useful for adults who do not want to reveal that they are undergoing treatment for professional or other reasons. These options include but are not limited to Invisalign, tooth-colored ceramic braces and lingual braces.
You should also be aware that recent advances in the development of braces have made them more comfortable than ever with smaller brackets that are customized for the ideal fit. Even with these advancements, some patients may still experience minor discomfort when treatment begins, but it is easily managed with over the counter pain medication and it usually goes away quickly.
Dr. Fink looks forward to meeting with you at her St. Louis orthodontic office to discuss the many advantages of and options for adult treatment, because people of all ages should have their most beautiful, healthy smile.
